Coatings Innovation Specialist

The Coatings Innovation Specialist is a research and development role responsible for formulating, testing, and advancing primarily waterborne coatings for paperboard and other packaging applications. This role requires deep expertise in barrier coatings, heat-resistant coatings, chemical-resistant coatings, and related technologies. The successful candidate will bring proven experience in coating development, testing methodologies, and regulatory compliance, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, global team environment.

• Develop and formulate innovative coatings based on customer needs and specifications.
• Conduct and interpret testing such as COBB, COF, hot mar, vapor transmission, etc.
• Analyze internal and external coatings and document findings in technical service reports.
• Maintain laboratory instrumentation and calibrations.
• Partner with suppliers on innovation opportunities, pricing, and logistics.
• Collaborate with Product Management and Marketing to create technical data sheets.
• Manage procurement of lab supplies from plant and external sources.
• Support and attend press trials as necessary to ensure project success.
• Champion Flint Group’s Safety Culture within the laboratory and work environment.
• Provide technical support to multiple sites as required.

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry (or equivalent).
• 10+ years of experience developing coatings.
• Knowledge and experience in regulated applications.
• Proficiency in SAP preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
• Strong team collaboration skills with the ability to engage cross-functional stakeholders.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
