Overview

Designer II, EIC will be responsible to understand and develop wiring diagrams, connection diagrams, one-line/three-line diagrams, schematic/elementary diagrams, logic diagrams and conduit/raceway diagrams.
Designer II, EIC will have the ability to produce complex 2D engineering drawings. Individual will be responsible to check drawings for accuracy including dimensions, spelling, drafting standards and completeness utilizing correct project design criteria. Participation in field walk downs as necessary, to obtain measurements, verify as-built documentation, and develop field sketches in support of plant modifications and design installations will occasionally be required.

Position requires the individual to exercise independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction from Design Supervisor, Design Lead or Engineering and will concurrently support multiple projects. Individual will need to communicate with project engineers and other disciplines to develop drawings and resolve design discrepancies. The ability to interface with the customer and their construction representatives to integrate designs to satisfy their standards is a must for this position.

Education Required (minimum):
Associates degree in drafting, design or engineering technology or 4 years of equivalent experience in the design of electrical and controls systems.

Experience Required (minimum):
Must have 5 years (minimum) of experience in engineering drafting and electrical design practices in addition to the education requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Produce complex 2D engineering drawings and check drawings for accuracy, including dimensions, spelling, drafting standards and completeness.
  • Participate in field walk downs as necessary to obtain measurements, verify as-built documentation, and develop field sketches in support of plant modifications and design installations.
  • Communicate with project engineers and other disciplines to develop drawings and resolve design discrepancies.
  • Interface with the customer and their construction representatives to integrate designs to satisfy their standards.
  • Overtime work is required. Travel to client sites is required with periods of field/office work.
  • Exercise independent judgment to develop designs with minimal direction from Design Supervisor, Design Lead or Engineering and concurrently support multiple projects.
  • Perform walk downs of equipment in an industrial plant environment, including climbing ladders, working at heights, carrying equipment up to 50 pounds, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined spaces and controlled hazardous (e.g., high temperatures, high radiation) areas as required.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Associates degree in drafting, design or engineering technology or 4 years of equivalent experience in electrical and controls system design.
  • Experience:

    5 years minimum engineering drafting and electrical design practices.
  • Skills:

    Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Micro Station CAD software (or equivalent) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); competency in email and databases.
  • Knowledge:
    Technical knowledge of design practices, codes, and standards applicable to electrical/I&C systems; working knowledge of electrical design principles and Wiring Diagrams.
  • Other:
    Ability to pass security and drug screening and maintain unescorted commercial nuclear plant access.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Raster Design or 3D modeling experience.
  • Ability to utilize various drafting and CAD techniques as required for project requirements.
  • Additional certifications and/or courses in basic electronics and/or electrical systems.
  • Recent plant modification package development and/or field experience on nuclear power plant projects.
