Job SummaryPerforms complex electrical apparatus work onsite at customer facilities, including electrical testing, preventative maintenance, commissioning, upgrades, and repairs. Responsible for troubleshooting, training customers, establishing LOTO procedures, reporting, and ensuring safety compliance.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Execute mechanical and electrical tasks on equipment used in power transmission, distribution, and generation.
- Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and troubleshoot equipment problems.
- Repair, replace, and clean all substation components.
- Lead testing activities: transformer (power factor, TTR, insulation resistance, SFRA, winding resistance, partial discharge), cable (tan delta, hipot, TDR, partial discharge), circuit breaker (contact resistance, power factor, breaker timing, SF6 analysis, CT testing, high current testing, secondary injection, vacuum bottle integrity).
- Test electrical‑mechanical and solid‑state relays.
- Participate in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment.
- Plan, conduct, and evaluate safety meetings and training.
- Assist management in planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects.
- Familiar with industry standards (NETA, NFPA 70E, OSHA, DOT regulations).
- Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical problems.
- Strong communication and problem‑solving skills.
- PC skills: email, internet, data entry, Microsoft Office.
- Multitask, prioritize, and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Work independently using sound judgment.
- Preferred: DTAF and Power DB knowledge (training provided).
- Consistently punctual for work assignments, meetings, and training.
- Organize reporting of time, expenses, weekly status reports, and documentation.
- Maintain tools, test equipment, and vehicles clean, organized, and calibrated.
- Willing to relocate within 60 miles of the hiring regional office.
- Corporate business hours Monday‑Friday 7:30am‑4:30pm, with work outside business hours required.
- Work in close proximity to live electrical substations.
- Work overtime including nights, weekends, and some holidays.
- Travel overnight, multi‑day, out‑of‑town projects.
- Rotate emergency on‑call duty and respond to customer emergencies promptly.
- High School Diploma or GED required;
Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology preferred. - At least 10 years of experience in electrical substation testing, construction, maintenance, troubleshooting, assembly, and commissioning.
- Ability to achieve NETA level III or IV within 6 months of employment.
- Project management experience and support management in planning, scheduling, execution, and cost management of field projects.
- Pass pre‑employment criminal background check and motor vehicle check.
- Pass pre‑employment drug and alcohol test and periodic random testing.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to obtain endorsement for combined vehicle weight up to 26k lbs.
- Lift and maneuver at least 50 lbs.
- Obtain company‑paid TWIC card, OSHA 10/30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, and CPR training.
