The Department of Agriculture at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor for Academic Year 2026-27. The appointment begins August 2026.

The Department of Agriculture at EKU invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Applicants should hold an earned doctorate in animal science or a related field at the time of appointment. ABD candidates may be considered with evidence of a scheduled doctoral defense that occurs no later than May prior to a Fall appointment. The position serves animal and veterinary science majors and requires a broad-based educational and experiential background.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in a workload consistent with the priorities and needs of the college and Institution. Courses may include ruminant and non-ruminant animal production and basic animal sciences with topics such as genetics and breeding, nutrition, health and disease, physiology, or reproduction, depending on experience and ability. The appointment begins August 2026.

The successful candidate will develop and maintain an active scholarly agenda, recruit, advise, and mentor students pursuing veterinary school, graduate school, or industry positions, and participate in service to the department, university, and community. Opportunities exist to advise student organizations and competitive teams and to represent the department at state, regional, and national meetings. The department offers access to the university farm (beef, dairy cattle, poultry, sheep, and swine).

The University emphasizes leadership in responsible use of artificial intelligence and developing AI capacity in students. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of AI relevant to the discipline and/or pursue professional development to acquire such expertise.

Education:

Earned Ph.D. in animal science or related field from an accredited institution at time of appointment. ABD candidates may be considered with evidence of a scheduled doctoral defense that occurs no later than May prior to a Fall appointment.
