Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provide specialized services for a specific school or district program involving the school or district in relation to parents and/or the community at large.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Provide specialized services for an assigned program involving the school, district and students in relation to the community and parents.
  • Works with students, family members, classroom teachers, and other to identify potential career interests and various job possibilities available in the community.
  • Coordinates student Career Assessment to identify student competencies, interests, relevant vocations (including kinds of work previously unconsidered) and learning about the impact of students’ disabilities and related support needs.
  • Completes written Career Assessment and assists with development of student’s IPE’s (Individualized Plan for Employment-through OVR) and students’ IEP (Individual Education Plan with teacher).
  • Works with employers and student to develop personalized jobs.
  • Provides consultation for business personnel related to specific instruction and support needs of individual students – prompting instruction by those who typically provide training and supplementing employer training as needed.
  • Provides follow-up services to promote job stability and advancements and continuing success of students.
  • Maintains necessary records for the local school system and the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation. Keeps current and complete information regarding each student. Bills timely for appropriate services.
  • Completes year-end program data report.
  • Provides transportation according to district’s community based instruction policies and procedures.
  • Works collaboratively with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and the Kentucky Department of Education to create a unique program to address each student’s expressed strengths and interests.
  • Attends all require state and local trainings determined necessary for the position.

Director of Special Education (D.O.S.E.)

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Provide liaison services between the student and the parents or between the school and the community.
  • Specific program to which assigned.
  • Record-keeping techniques.
  • Operation of a computer terminal and data entry techniques.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Research methods and report writing techniques.
  • Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.
  • Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Technical aspects of field of specialty.

ABILITY TO:

  • Coordinate assigned activities to resolve student issues or develop community programs.
  • Travel to student homes and interact with parents.
  • Assist with responsible duties for a specific program.
  • Understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Operate a computer terminal.
  • Prioritize and schedule work.
  • Learn, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements and restrictions.
  • Determine appropriate action within clearly defined guidelines.
  • Work independently with little direction.
  • Meet schedules and time lines.

EMPLOYMENT:

  • 180 days per year
  • 4 hours per day – Mon.

    -Fri.

SALARY:

Commensurate with the Raceland Worthington Independent Schools Classified Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel. Evaluation conducted by the district D.O.S.E. and/or Superintendent.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree from any accredited postsecondary institution required.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid driver's license.
