EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

JOB CLASS CODE: 4120

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

EXEMPT STATUS: Exempt

BASIC FUNCTION:

To act under the general direction of the Superintendent to provide leadership in planning developing, maintaining, and evaluating the District's curriculum and instruction; to coordinate, organize, perform duties dealing with instructional support, supervision, budgeting, investments, and professional development; collaborate with instructional program leadership and is responsible for representing the best interests of the K-12 school programs; provide direct supervision of staff responsible for curriculum and instruction development;

provide leadership to the District in complying with Federal and State laws and regulations. Supervises:
Instruction, Special Education, Federal Programs, Career and Technical Education Programs, Technology, Assessment, Instructional Support Staff, and such staff members as the Superintendent may designate.

Representative Duties
  • Initiate and administer staff development in conjunction with the needs of the district.
  • Oversee State and District level assessment measures, as well as work with schools on Superintendent’s behalf to analyze results to assist staff in making instructional improvements.
  • Coordinate and conduct administrative meetings when requested by the Superintendent.
  • Counsel with administrators and staff about school departmental problems.
  • Formulate and develop programs for the opening and closing of school.
  • Resolve personnel complaints when requested by Superintendent.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of the sections of the budget that pertain to curriculum and instruction.
  • Responsible for reviewing and evaluating results of district-wide testing programs.
  • Major responsibility in the areas of textbook selection and adoptions, purchase and implementation of any new mandated curriculum program.
  • Coordinate all formal efforts of the professional staff in projects of curriculum development. Interpret the present curriculum and proposed curriculum changes to the Board, administration, staff and general public.
  • Participate in appropriate local, state, and national professional meetings.
  • Attend all regular meetings of the Board of Education.
  • Evaluate programs and services at both the district and school levels.
  • Review and alter curriculum guides and courses of study as needed.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and seminars on upgrading instructional programs.
  • Develop and conduct staff development activities for teachers, administrators, and certain classified personnel.
  • Assist in directing the work of the Instructional Coaches.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position assigned as may be requested by the Superintendent.
  • Maintains regular attendance. It is an essential job function that all employees report to work.
