Expanded Functions Dental Assistant

Full-Time and Part-Time Availability

At Blount Rural Health Center, our goal is to provide the highest quality of care to our patients. The Expanded Functions Dental Assistant plays a very important part of the connection between the patient and the Dentist. The primary purpose of this position is to serve by performing a variety of supportive technical and expanded function duties in the delivery of dental treatment.

This includes assisting in general dentistry, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, and pediatric dentistry treatments to patients. A smiling face and friendly attitude are a must for this role. This job description entails the responsibilities of Expanded Functions Dental Assistant; however, this is not an all-inclusive list as the position requires flexibility and acceptance of other tasks as assigned.

  • Assist dentist during procedures
  • Sterilization of instruments
  • Assist in updating and maintaining patient clinic records
  • Perform routine cleanings
  • Assist in the performance of more complicated surgical procedures
  • Offer patient advice and materials necessary to maintain good dental health
  • Educate patient by giving oral hygiene and postoperative instructions
  • Prevent the spread of infection and disease by maintaining a surgically clean work environment
  • Perform/obtain X-rays of patients teeth
  • Prepare materials for crowns or dental impressions
  • Perform restorative
  • Perform coronal polishing, sealant application, fluoride application, and topical anesthetic application as needed if trained
  • Stock treatment areas and monitor inventory to anticipate needed supplies
  • Compose orders and verify receipt of supplies
  • Call patients for aftercare to answer questions on procedures and follow-up on treatment or appointments
  • Conserve dental resources by eliminating waste
  • Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements by following manufactures instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
  • Assures highest productivity daily
  • Participates in staff meetings
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Conserves resources by elimination of waste, adequate care of supplies and equipment
