Description- Position title: Chapel Team Music Intern

- Pay Rate: $11.00 per hour
- Hours: ~15 per week

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chapel Team Music Intern works closely under the supervision of the Coordinator of Worship in the task of helping shepherd worship services through song, by leading the chapel band as a pastoral musician, empowering and discipling musicians to grow as current and future worship leaders, facilitating music for chapel activities, and contextualizing our God-centered worship for the formation and participation of the Asbury Seminary community.
The chapel year provides rich opportunities for theological training in worship leadership as well as pastoral mentoring through both supervisory and peer relationships.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Leading and Planning Worship.
- Leads Chapel bands and supports/assists other worship leaders
- Timely, wise scheduling of worship leaders and musicians
- Evaluates new music for use in worship services with pastoral knowledge of community, theological knowledge of lyrics, and musical knowledge of songs
- Seeks global integration with international and intercultural worshipers and musicians; must be teachable and have a heart for the global church
- Meets with the Coordinator of Worship weekly, and other staff
Leading, Equipping, and Empowering Musicians and Leaders.
- Strategic, humble, relational leader of leaders - empowering and equipping worship leaders on campus
- Evaluates musicians for participation in or leadership of Chapel
- Provides coaching and feedback for band members and musicians
- Develops & facilitates musician training events under supervision of Coordinator of Worship
- Intentionally seeks out, and effectively integrates, new musicians into opportunities for worship
- Collaborates with worship leaders on setlist for every Chapel in a timely manner, in close collaboration with Coordinator of Worship
Administrative Organization.
- Maintains song use records and compiles CCLI reports as needed
- Maintains equipment needs and reports to Coordinator of Worship
- Timely & accurate tracking of hymns, updated in the Hymn Count Spreadsheet monthly for Associate Dean of Chapel
- Occasionally collaborates with Sound and Technology departments to ensure excellence and teamwork between musicians and sound.
Other Responsibilities:
- Contributes as member of Chapel Team through planning, evaluation, and preparation of worship services
- May help with instrument setup and breakdown for Chapel Band practices
- Other duties as assigned by Coordinator of Worship/Dean of Chapel
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of job, including but not limited to: sitting and standing for long periods of time, repetitive motion related to computer work, lifting/carrying light-weight objects, moving between buildings across campus
Tools & Equipment:
- Computer Skills including both use of Macintosh and Windows operating systems
- Working knowledge of Gmail, Google Docs & Google Sheets
- Experience with or willingness to learn Planning Center Online in detail
- Experience with or willingness to learn CCLI platform
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES DESIRED:
- Loves the Lord wholeheartedly, and with whole-life integrity
- Commitment to the serious study and excellent practice of Christian worship
- A willingness to work together in close physical proximity and spiritual community, which requires a commitment to cultivating virtue in a relational environment and to growing in emotionally healthy spirituality
- A familiarity with or willingness to lead, and see rich value in, both contemporary and traditional music
- Knowledge of sound tech or willingness to learn basic soundboard skills for troubleshooting when sound technicians are not around
- Demonstrated written and oral communication abilities
- Due to the nature of this work, there is a strong preference for one’s schedule to be free on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from about 9:30 or 10AM until Chapel begins at 11AM
