Location: Utica
Camp Pennyroyal, a 180‑acre Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana overnight camp near Owensboro, KY, serves Girl Scouts in grades 4–12 with traditional activities such as boating, archery, and ropes courses. Programs are led by paid staff and volunteers.
About the Camp and the RoleThe Assistant Camp Director helps ensure smooth daily operations in alignment with ACA standards. This role supports staff training and development, administrative duties, supervision, and program implementation while fostering a positive camp culture.
Benefits, Compensation & DatesStaff receive room, board, and most meals, along with a supportive community environment. Seasonal salary is $5,061. Camp runs May 22–July 14.
Key Responsibilities- Manage hiring, training, scheduling, budgets, and purchasing
- Coordinate with departments for scheduling, transportation, and safety orientations
- Ensure on‑boarding completion
- Supervise staff
- Assist with session openings/closings and customer service
- Update camper records in Camp Doc
- Conduct facility and equipment checks
- Process Trading Post purchases
- Ensure program quality
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Non‑traditional and long work hours are expected; the Assistant Camp Director typically receives breaks between sessions and is always on call when campers are on property
- Long hours; on‑call when campers are present; private quarters; outdoor work in varied weather; assist with ropes and waterfront; walk/hike daily on uneven terrain
- Current certifications in American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, AED, and Waterfront Life‑guarding (strongly preferred)
- 1 year each of childcare/youth program, supervisory, and administrative experience
- Age 21+
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license
- Swimming proficiency
- Ability to drive pick up trucks and boats
- Must pass background checks, complete required forms, support Girl Scout mission, and promote diversity and safety
- Ensure diversity and pluralism are embraced and incorporated into the work of the council
- Support the Girl Scout mission, vision, and values of Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and live by the Girl Scout Promise and Law
