We are looking for an appositive, enthusiastic, self‑motivated, customer‑focused, and digitally literate library professional with the skills to promote services to a wide range of customers out in the hapori. You will also play a major role in training and developing the skills of kaimahi, especially with digital technologies.
Wāhi Pātōtō is a dynamic and customer‑driven team operating in a busy learning environment. A Librarian Community in the Fingertip Library is a great communicator, providing information services to our customers over the phone and online. We are looking for someone with the library skills, and ability to express manaakitanga to our customers using those technologies.
A day in the life of a Librarian Community will include:- Responding to requests via phone, email, social media and our Live Online chat service
- Informing and making recommendations regarding our library resources and services
- Assisting in training and upskilling staff, particularly around digital technologies
- Participating in team and network projects
- Diploma level 5 Library qualification and four years relevant library experience OR relevant diploma level 6 qualification and two years relevant library experience.
- Being highly confident with technology and having a personal commitment to staying current with the increasing range of devices and resources you will be using with customers.
- Having advanced information retrieval skills and being highly competent in using electronic resources and supporting customers and colleagues to use them.
- Being highly organised with the ability to move quickly between tasks as you manage multiple simultaneous demands.
- Demonstrating in word and action an understanding of te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to Christchurch City Libraries.

Rosters include working one Saturday in seven with the following Monday off, and scheduled hours will be between 8.00am and 6.00pm but some flexibility will be required. - Position:

The hourly rate for this position goes from $35.77 - $43.71 per hour. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles. - Closing Date: 17th March 2026
