Aerospace Quality Engineer – Precision Castparts (formerly Protective Coatings Inc.)

Location:

Kent, Washington

Precision Castparts is a leading aerospace component manufacturer. Our Aerostructures Division specializes in full‑service finishing, non‑destructive testing, surface enhancement, and coating systems.

Position Summary

Provide comprehensive quality engineering support throughout the product lifecycle. Responsibilities include process analysis, preventive and corrective action, documentation of product discrepancies, and customer interaction.

Reporting Relationships

The Quality Engineer reports to the Quality Manager.

QMS Support – Primary

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, implement, update, monitor, and assure compliance with QMS policies and procedures.
  • Monitor QMS effectiveness through teamwork and statistical methods; recommend improvements.
  • Provide and support training on quality/QMS related items.
  • Offer technical guidance to shop personnel.
  • Familiarize with continuous improvement methods and implement them.
  • Lead quality improvement efforts across cross‑functional areas.
  • Support a positive, compliant, continuous‑improvement quality culture.
  • Communicate professionally with employees, customers, OEMs, and regulatory agencies.
  • Lead and participate in problem‑solving initiatives.
Nonconforming Product
  • Review and validate internal and external rejections against drawings, specifications, and purchase orders.
  • Disposition rejected hardware.
  • Develop and approve rework plans.
  • Perform trend analysis for rejections.
  • Conduct NOEs, disclosures, or other customer notifications as applicable.
Document Control
  • Perform accurate specification reviews and gap analyses.
  • Identify and update all specification and standard touch points.
  • Develop and approve planning operations/process codes and master routes.
  • Perform first‑run reviews.
  • Maintain and update QMS documentation.
  • Complete customer surveys and requests.
  • Issue and maintain Acceptance Authority Media.
Monitoring and Measuring
  • Ensure tool calibration compliance with external and internal requirements.
  • Schedule calibration activities with personnel or vendors.
  • Monitor and maintain use of calibrated tools.
  • Perform calibrations when necessary.
  • Maintain calibration database.
Corrective Actions
  • Conduct training with supervisors and shop personnel.
  • Issue corrective actions to applicable departments or vendors.
  • Ensure corrective actions are appropriate and effective.
  • Maintain corrective action database.
  • Provide completed requests to the customer.
Audits
  • Audit quality systems for deficiency identification and correction; ensure corrective measures meet reliability standards and documentation compliance.
  • Perform internal audits and maintain audit schedule.
  • Support external audits (customer, OEM, regulatory) and provide audit reports as required.
Required Skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel; intermediate skills in other Microsoft Office products.
  • Team player with a proactive, positive attitude and strong self‑motivation.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
  • High integrity when handling confidential information.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret quality and specification data.
  • Independently prioritize and accomplish daily tasks.
  • Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing/processing environment preferred.
Required Experience

3+ years progressive quality engineering experience, preferably in aerospace.

Level of Education

4‑year degree in Business Administration, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $82,000 – $110,000 U.S. dollars. Eligible for quarterly cash bonus (2X base multiple). 120 hours paid time off annually, 10 paid holidays, medical/dental/vision, basic life insurance, and 401(k) plan.
