Position: Physical Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist – School

Overview

AB Staffing Solutions is seeking an experienced Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Specialist to join our team. In this role, you’ll provide individualized instruction to students with visual impairments, empowering them to travel safely, confidently, and independently in school and community settings.

Position Details
  • Location: Kent, WA.
  • Schedule: Full-time | 37.5 to 40 hours per week.
  • School-year position.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Weekly Pay: $2,250 - $2,437.50.
  • Untaxed Per Diems & Travel Stipend for eligible travelers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide orientation and mobility instruction to students with visual impairments in school and community environments.
  • Conduct assessments to determine students’ O&M needs and develop Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives.
  • Teach safe travel techniques, including cane skills, environmental awareness, spatial orientation, and street crossings.
  • Collaborate with Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs), special educators, families, and related service providers to support student success.
  • Instruct students in the use of assistive and adaptive technology for independent travel.
  • Maintain detailed progress notes, reports, and documentation per district and state guidelines.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, team consultations, and professional development activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility from an accredited university.
  • COMS certification (Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist) through ACVREP, or eligibility to obtain certification.
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired in educational settings.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Experience providing O&M services in public school settings.
  • Familiarity with current O&M practices, assistive technology, and accessible travel tools.
