Optronics Systems Engineer - internal UK relocation is possible
A well-established precision engineering company operating in the defence and advanced sensing domain is seeking a Systems Engineer with experience in optronics and sensor-based solutions to join its engineering function.
The role focuses on the design, development, and integration of optical, electro-optical and laser-based sensor systems, supporting projects across the full engineering lifecycle. You will work within multidisciplinary teams to ensure system solutions meet technical, safety, and performance requirements.
You will be involved from early concept and requirements definition through to system integration, verification and customer engagement, contributing to both delivery and technical decision-making.
Responsibilities:- Lead systems engineering activities on projects involving optical, electro-optical and laser technologies.
- Capture, analyse and manage stakeholder and system requirements.
- Develop system architectures, functional definitions and subsystem interfaces.
- Support concept development, evaluation and solution trade-offs.
- Identify, assess and manage technical risks and opportunities.
- Contribute to bid, proposal and technical documentation.
- Support integration, verification and validation planning and execution.
- Participate in customer meetings and technical reviews.
- Produce clear technical reports and documentation
- Undertake customer or service visits when required
- Engineering degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of post-graduate or industry experience in systems or optronics engineering.
- Background in optical, electro-optical or laser-based systems preferred.
- Exposure to manufacturing environments and full product lifecycle activities.
- Experience with requirements management and system assurance practices.
- Knowledge of reliability, safety or qualification testing methods is beneficial.
- Familiarity with modelling tools (e.g. MATLAB / Simulink) is an advantage.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work across disciplines.
- Full driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites when needed.
- Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance.
