Mortgage Underwriter

Family owned and operated mortgage banker seeking a full time residential mortgage underwriter.

Company located in Kenosha, WI and licensed to originate mortgages in Wisconsin and Illinois.

Underwriter will review loan applications, ensuring that all documentation is accurate, complete, and meets the established guidelines.

Duties to include:

• Review of preapproval files and full loan applications to calculate income, verify assets and liabilities, determine overall loan eligibility on construction, conventional, FHA, and VA loans.
• Analyze borrower profiles, credit histories, income documentation, and appraisals to determine risk and eligibility.
• Communicate and collaborate with loan officers, processors, and company management daily.
• Approve or deny applications based on a thorough analysis and company policies.
• Stay updated with industry regulations, changes, and trends to ensure compliance and efficient underwriting practices.
• Provide clear and concise explanations to support underwriting decisions and recommendations.

• DE Underwriter Certification and VA Underwriter Certification are preferred.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mortgage underwriting.
• Strong knowledge of FHA, VA, and conventional loan programs and guidelines.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple files and deadlines.
• Proficient in mortgage processing and underwriting software; experience with automated underwriting systems is a plus.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
