Under the direction of the Education Manager or their designee, the Group Program Facilitator supports school and group tours, public programs and events for the Kenosha Public Museum, Civil War Museum and Dinosaur Discovery Museum. They enhance the museum interpretive experience, increase audience engagement and interact frequently with museum guests and program participants. Regularly scheduled hours are Monday-Thursday but the schedule may vary to meet the Museums’ needs.
Work is reviewed through conferences, observation of work in progress, and written reports for results obtained and adherence to established policies and procedures.
- Supports the Museum Education Department by assisting with school and group tour programs, including classroom and exhibit-based programs, at the Kenosha Public Museum, Civil War Museum, and Dinosaur Discovery Museum.
- Assists Curators of Education by presenting classroom programs and exhibit-based programs, as needed; includes providing information and interpretation of all three museums’ collections.
- Assists with preparations for daily group visits; includes program set-up, working with volunteers, and program clean-up.
- Assists Curators of Education with group arrival; includes welcoming the group, answering questions, and facilitating group orientations as needed.
- Follows program procedures.
- Formats and proofreads group program handouts, written materials and graphics.
- Assists Curators of Education with planning and implementation of museum summer camps.
- Supports daily summer camp activities, including but not limited to supporting Summer Education Interns through the development and implementation of theme and age-appropriate activities, preparing activities and supplies, and providing classroom assistance to Summer Education Interns.
- Helps supervise campers through different exhibits and classrooms at the Kenosha Public Museum and nearby outdoor green spaces.
- Formats and proofreads camp handouts, written materials and graphics.
- Follows camp procedures for enforcing camper safety and identifies any potential safety risks.
- Collects camp supply lists from instructors, resolves supply questions, and maintains supply inventory.
- Assembles, distributes and puts away camp supplies.
- Assists with daily camp check-in/check-out procedures and contacts "no-shows".
- Facilitates drop-in interactions with museum guests through the development and implementation of interpretive carts.
- Assists Curators of Education with the implementation of public programs as needed, including occasional evenings and weekends.
- High school diploma or GED required; prior experience in a museum or educational setting preferred.
- One (1) year of general clerical experience including cashiering, computer operations and public or customer service; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- College work in Museum Studies, History, Science or Education or a related field preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Bilingual (Spanish) skills are preferred.
