Couchiching First Nation is seeking compassionate and dependable casual Homemakers to join our Health Department team. This position provides in-home support services to community members who require assistance with daily household tasks. The Homemaker helps clients maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment to support independence and quality of life. Services include housekeeping, meal preparation, and companionship delivered with respect and cultural sensitivity.
Applicantsmust meet the following criteria:
- Perform general housekeeping tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and laundry
- Wash dishes, tidy living areas, and maintain kitchen and bathroom cleanliness
- Assist with changing bed linens and organizing household items
- Prepare light meals or snacks based on client preferences and dietary needs
- Assist with grocery shopping or accompany clients to the store, if requested
- Provide friendly and respectful companionship during visits
- Observe and report any safety, health, or behavioral concerns to the Homemaking Program Manager
- Maintain client privacy and always uphold respectful communication
- High school diploma or equivalent education and experience
- Prior experience with housekeeping, meal preparation and/or caregiving is an asset
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or organizations is preferred
- Awareness of health issues specific to First Nations people, the elderly, and those with disabilities
- Understanding and respect for Couchiching First Nations culture, traditions, and practices
- Ability to perform routine household tasks safely and efficiently
- Safe Food Handler’s Certificate or ability to obtain certification if required
- Ability to provide proof of up-to-date immunizations
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle
- Ability to provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check
- Ability to speak or understand Ojibway is an asset
