Job Summary
The Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre is seeking a Recreation/Activation Worker who will provide recreational and social activities that include, but are not limited to, a range of indoor and outdoor recreation, leisure and outings designed to benefit all residents and reflect their interests. The Worker will provide information to residents about community activities that may be of interest to them and offer assistance to enable participation when residents cannot do so independently.
The Worker will collaborate with other disciplines to ensure Resident care plans are focused with achievable goals, promoting quality of life, maintaining optimal health, function, independence and fulfilling social, spiritual, and leisure activities suitable for Residents’ abilities.
- Minimum Grade 12 or GED required.
- Post‑secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or a related field required.
- Computer skills required.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others.
- Ability to motivate staff and clients and deal effectively with the public.
- Must be reliable and conscientious.
- Must be able to work weekends as required.
- Complete personhood assessment and develop programming reflective of these assessments.
- Evaluate programming to ensure activities meet the needs of patients.
- Plan and implement activities for patients/residents of the Chronic Care and Alternative Level of Care.
- Document events, activities and one‑on‑one interactions daily.
- Provide a bi‑weekly draft of activities to the Administrator.
- Share resources and group activities between the activation worker of Extended Care and the Hospital Site.
- Communicate regularly with the nursing staff on the ward to plan activities and share information.
- Assist nursing staff in preparing residents/patients for outings (e.g., jackets, hats, sunscreen, insect repellent).
- Book transportation as needed for planned activities.
- Utilize a team approach as Activation staff assist at meal times, answer call bells and assist residents with minor daily tasks.
- Escort residents/patients on outings as assigned.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures concerning cleaning, hand hygiene and the use of Personal Protective Equipment in support of Infection Control measures and attend training when necessary.
$26.70 – $28.80; an additional 18% in lieu of benefits in accordance with the CUPE Collective Agreement.
