$20.06 - $25.07 per hour Part-Time In-Person
- Volunteer firefighters are responsible for fire-fighting duties, team-oriented training, fire service public relations, public fire safety education, emergency scene accountability, fire ground support, limited maintenance and hall duties, and other duties as assigned.
- Portions of this work include duties of a hazardous nature.
- Probationary Volunteers will be paid $17.55 per hour until further notice. This is the entry-level class for volunteer positions. Once 70% of the 5th Class Firefighter rate has surpassed this amount, the rate would no longer be red-circled and all future rate increases would be linked to those of the MNU employee group.
- Level 1 Volunteers will be paid $20.06 per hour until further notice. This class of volunteer has successfully completed a minimum of one year of service and 100 hours of documented training during that time. Once 80% of the of the 5th Class Firefighter rate has surpassed the Level 1 rate, said rate would no longer be red-circled and all future rate increases would be linked to those of the MNU employee group.
- Level 2 Volunteers will be paid $22.56 per hour until further notice. This class of volunteer has successfully completed a minimum of one year of service as a Level 1 volunteer and 100 hours of documented training during that time. The volunteer must also be certified as per the NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 1 standard. Once 90% of the 5th Class Firefighter rate has surpassed the Level 2 rate, said rate would no longer be red-circled and all future rate increases would be linked to those of the MNU employee group.
- Level 3 Volunteers will be paid $25.07 per hour until further notice. This class of volunteer has successfully completed a minimum of one year of service as a Level 2 Volunteer and 100 hours of documented training during that time. The volunteer must also be certified as per the NFPA 1001 Firefighter Level 2 standard. Once 100% of the 5th Class Firefighter rate has surpassed the Level 3 rate, said rate would no longer be red-circled and all future rate increases would be linked to those of the MNU employee group.

The incumbent reports to the Division Captain / Fire Chief.
General Responsibilities:
- Responds to fires, fire alarms, rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergencies as assigned
- Follows direction from supervisory personnel at emergency scenes
- Performs the following duties as assigned at emergency scenes – lays and connects hose lines and other related appliances, advances hose lines and directs fire streams, carries, places and climbs ladders, performs salvage and overhaul work, performs ventilation, enters burning and contaminated buildings as directed, performs rescue operations or fight fires as directed, and provides first aid to the injured
- Wears all appropriate personal protective equipment as supplied by the Fire Department
- Assists in cleaning fire department equipment and apparatus, and placing it back in service upon return to the station following an emergency response, or a training session
- Participates in training to achieve NFPA certification as required by the Town
- May participate in public education displays and activities in support of full time staff.

- Duties require physical exertion over prolonged periods of time, climbing and working from heights, working in risk positions, and subjection to stressful environments
- Muscular exertion is required to lift, carry, and move equipment, materials and victims in excess of 60kgs and over 15m
- Must be able to effectively work and handle equipment in confined spaces
- Must establish and maintain communicative and cooperative relations with others
Qualifications:
Required
- Demonstrated experience working in a team setting
- Demonstrated ability to competently follow direction
- Physically fit as defined by the job performance objectives of NFPA 1582
- Successful completion of a medical examination as required by the NFPA 1582
- CPR and First Aid Certified
