Under general supervision, a Maintenance & Construction Craftsworker – Warehouse/Fleet performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and general work in the Executive Services Department and may be temporarily assigned to other Departments within the City as required. Must possess the skills, knowledge and physical capabilities to perform the duties of the position and must comply with City and Department policies, procedures and methods at all times.

Must demonstrate an ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.

Examples of Work Performed (Illustrative Only)

Warehouse Division

  • Inventory – Controls all aspects of warehouse inventory, ensuring optimal stock levels, accurate tracking, efficient storage, and timely fulfillment. Implements best practices using inventory software to support overall cost control and customer satisfaction. Performs regular cycle counts and physical inventory of warehouse stock. Prepares purchasing requisitions for needed goods and materials; determines the availability of stock; investigates and resolves inventory discrepancies;

    assists in maintenance and periodic inventory of central store supplies; processes and delivers pick ticket requisitions as material is requested and received; using work orders, issues needed materials from inventory to various departmental employees; identifies and tags all items that qualify for the City's fixed asset inventory and inventory stock for Fleet Maintenance.
  • Receiving – Verifies condition and completeness of orders and unloads, electronically records, and stocks inventory items; delivers received orders to the requesting department; may pick up orders from local vendors and deliver to job sites; operates the forklift; cleans and organizes the storeroom so that all items can be easily located and retrieved; assists in maintaining an organization guide identifying where storeroom items are located;

    handles freight claims for damage and shortage; locates required paperwork and prepares goods for delivery; recommends changes in stock levels and materials stored; recommends changes to procedures that may result in cost savings; recommends changes in layout of storage area to facilitate access and utilize space most efficiently; stores items to prevent loss or damage; informs the Purchasing Department of any vendor-related problems;

    assists in expediting back orders; keeps accurate files and data on surplus, receiving and inspection reports, incoming freight bills and receiving copies.

Fleet Division

Service Writing – Acts as the primary liaison between the Fleet Division's customers and maintenance crew, managing the entire work order process from initial request to vehicle return; has strong customer service and organizational skills, along with a basic knowledge of automotive repair.
