Job Description

The Life Safety Systems Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and installation of all district electronic fire, security, master clock, signaling, intercom and other low voltage systems, and ensuring compliance and safety protocols for the school district.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Perform preventative maintenance, cleaning, adjusting, repairing, and/or rebuilding/restoring of all fire alarm, security, communication, intercom, and camera systems.
  • Route and/or connect low voltage cable and wire as needed to support portable, security, fire, intercom systems.
  • Route and/or connect computer networking wires and cables as required.
  • Troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on all low voltage building components.
  • Work with Building and Grounds Manager, vendors, and other staff to ensure annual compliance testing is performed and recorded.
  • Communicate with shop leads, facilities staff, principals, customers, and contractors.
  • Report problem areas and safety hazards in school facilities.
  • Coordinate with other employees and trades to maximize quality and quantity of work.
  • Submit finished work orders promptly; complete with all hours worked and related costs.
  • Enter time and materials into electronic work order system.
  • Assist in creating a calendar‑based preventative maintenance system.
  • Generate work orders for preventative maintenance and other needed work.
  • Perform other related jobs and duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must present transcripts of highest level of education within thirty (30) days of hire, if applicable.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  • Must pass a basic skills test.
  • Complete Safe Schools Web‑Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  • Must pass a background check, including employee‑paid fingerprinting.

Qualifications Required

  • Washington State Limited Energy Electricians Certificate.
  • Minimum of three (3) years full‑time experience in the past five years as a journey‑level Systems Technician in facility construction, maintenance, and/or repair (alternative experience may be substituted at the district’s discretion).
  • Extensive, hands‑on experience with limited energy systems.
  • Demonstrated high degree of skill and knowledge expected of a journey‑level trades worker in the responsibilities listed under “Essential Duties and Responsibilities,” “General Requirements,” “Physical Demands,” and “Work Environment.”
  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License with a clear driving record; must provide a current abstract of driving record.
  • Willingness to comply with district board policies and established programs.
  • Ability to operate computers and a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Self‑starter with demonstrated problem‑solving ability.
  • Ability to assess and correct safety issues; read and interpret plans, construction drawings, and blueprints.
  • History of dependability and punctuality, with positive evaluations and recommendations.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize to meet district needs and deadlines.
  • Ability to determine scope of work, materials needed, and cost estimate for projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with employees, shop leads, district staff, and administrators.
  • Professional approach to assigned work, teamwork, pride in service delivery, and continuous improvement.
  • Physically able to lift more than 20 lbs., squat, bend, stoop, climb ladders, and perform other demanding physical tasks.

Qualifications Preferred

  • Experience with S-2 access control system.
  • Experience with Rauland manufactured components.
  • Experience with Exaqvision surveillance systems.
  • Experience with Simplex, Gamewell, and DMP panels.
  • Experience with TCU series intercom systems.
  • NICET II Fire Systems Certification.
