Hours: 6.5 Hours per Day, 180 Days per Year

Salary: $22.61 - $26.02 (Salary Schedules)

Earn up to $.60/hour extra, based on the number of college-level credits you have earned.

Job Description

The Intervention Para educator will be responsible for carrying through prescribed instructional programs and supporting special education students district wide. This person will work under the direction of, and in cooperation with, special education administration, current Intervention Team Specialists, building principals, and special education teachers.

Intervention Paraeducators will be responsible for tutoring, modeling, and meeting with special education students on an individual basis to implement, monitor, and evaluate intervention strategies. They will work closely with the Intervention Team Specialists to collaborate with staff in order to support and model appropriate school interventions. The para educator will be involved in keeping documentation to help monitor the student’s progress.

The para educator will perform all duties of the position within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures. Other job-related duties will be performed as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
  • Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
  • Must pass a basic skills test.
  • Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
  • Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
  • CPI training must be obtained at the next available opportunity.
Qualifications Required
  • Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
  • Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
  • Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
  • Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job related activities.
  • Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
  • Must be first-aid certified or be willing to acquire first aid training as soon as possible.
  • Ability and willingness to safely supervise student during transition periods.
  • Able to recognize, manage, and implement behavior intervention strategies when appropriate.
  • Able to maintain documentation of ongoing student behavioral data, and be able to report back to the IEP team.
