Yamaha has an excellent opportunity for a Sr Mechanical Engineer to join our Marine team in Kennesaw, GA
. The Sr Mechanical Engineer will drive the development of cutting‑edge marine solutions and leverage extensive experience in Mechanical Engineering. The role involves evaluating existing products and developing new products from proof of concept through production, establishing and executing project scope and budgets, collaborating with cross‑functional teams, adhering to industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols, and contributing to advanced development projects.

Strong communication skills for international collaboration are required. The position also includes selecting and guiding external resources, formulating and documenting hardware designs, and writing documentation to communicate system architecture and requirements. Additionally, this role entails being a key member of the product development process, from ideation to testing.

What you’ll be doing
  • Design, develop, and test mechanical systems, components, and products, emphasizing safety.
  • Write documentation to clarify and communicate system architecture, solutions, processes, requirements, and schedule for the execution of various projects to ensure delivery on key metrics.
  • Manage contracts, negotiate terms, maintain deadlines, draft and review NDAs, and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools for mechanical design and simulation, streamlining the design process.
  • Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, troubleshoot and resolve technical issues to meet design specifications.
  • Stay updated with industry trends, standards, and best engineering practices.
  • Contribute to project planning, technical support, and budgeting.
  • Mentor junior engineers, emphasizing best design practices.
What you need to be successful
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field (considered part of 15+ years of experience).
  • 15+ years of Mechanical engineering experience, with a preference for mobility products and marine industry experience, which is a great plus.
  • Professional engineering license (PE) is a plus.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams with mechanical, electrical, and software engineers.
  • Experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi application development.
  • Programming in Matlab, Simulink, C/C++.
  • Experience with CAN bus and IoT systems and communication.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, circuit theory, and power distribution with a safety focus.
  • Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and safety compliance across voltage levels.
