Department InformationThe Department of Secondary and Middle Grades Education humanizes education with learner-centered teaching, scholarship and service by building transformative, sustainable, and reciprocal partnerships grounded in fairness and inclusion with teachers, families, schools, and communities. We prepare teachers at all career stages to meet students' intellectual and social-emotional needs in developmentally appropriate ways. Our department is nationally recognized for work in Curriculum and Instruction;
Middle Grades and Secondary Education at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We have the largest doctoral enrollment in Bagwell.
Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Assistant Professor of Science Education in the Department of Secondary and Middle Grades Education with a preferred start date of August 2026. This is a nine-month contracted position and is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.
ResponsibilitiesTeaching
- Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Science Education, with an emphasis on Secondary and Middle Grades content areas
Scholarship and Creative Activity
- Develop and/or maintain a robust agenda in scholarship, aligned with the P&T guidelines for the department, college, and university
- Contribute to the field of Science Education in scholarly ways, particularly by producing scholarly presentations and/or Professional Development
- Act as a mentor in scholarship to graduate and undergraduate students
Service
- Take on service to the profession, department, college, and university as appropriate
- Serve on doctoral committees for Secondary or Middle Grades Ed.D. doctoral candidates
- Contribute to curriculum design with other Science content faculty in the department
Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.
Required Qualifications- An earned Terminal/Doctorate degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Science Education or a closely related discipline, is required at the time of hire.
- Minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience in science in grades 4-12
- Experience with instructional technology
- Experience with science teacher education
- Experience teaching science education courses at the undergraduate or graduate level(s)
- Experience in the supervision of teacher candidates in field placements
- Experience developing or teaching online courses
- Established record of research and/or professional development focused on issues in middle and/or secondary science education
- Experience with school-university partnerships
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive work environment in the department
- Willingness to engage with student success initiatives
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research/creative activities as appropriate to the discipline
