Position: Principal (2026 - 2027)

Overview

Discovery Schools are open-enrollment charter schools committed to educating the whole child. Founded in 2013 by the Discovery Health Sciences Foundation, the network has expanded to include two high-performing schools in Jefferson Parish:
Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (KDHSA) and Dr. John Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (DJOD). In August 2023, Discovery opened a third Type 2 charter school in Baton Rouge:
Baton Rouge Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (BROD). Additionally, they launched a hybrid virtual program in 2024 for students throughout Louisiana. All Discovery Schools are free public institutions that tailor their educational approaches to meet the needs of their communities.

High School Principal – Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy

Due to organizational growth, Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy seeks an experienced Masters level school administrator with expertise in high school graduation planning, school culture, discipline, school operations, and educational technology. Experience working with special populations, knowledge of annual testing, and LEADS teacher evaluation is preferred. 5 years+ experience. Position available July 2026.

Required selection criteria
  • Experience teaching;
  • Knowledge of CTE programming and student internships;
  • Familiarity with LHSAA and high school sports programming;
  • Ability to work with community organizations, agencies and resources;
  • Motivation to establish innovative and creative learning programs;
  • Dedication to providing supplementary programs to enhance student learning;
  • Commitment to implement staff development and training;
  • Ability to promote a positive school climate;
  • Ability to partner with parents;
  • Commitment to enabling each student to reach his/her personal best.
Preferred Candidates Will Have
  • Prior experience in a high-performing public high school that serves an at-risk population.
  • Established professional and community connections
  • Educational Leader Certification
