- Assist with grooming, dressing, bathing and daily living activities
- Provide respite care

- Continuing Care Assistant Certification (CCA)
- PSW, HSW or another provincial certification, or relevant work experience (eligible for Nova Scotia CCA RPL Program)
- Students in nursing, CCA programmes and internationally educated nurses considered
- Current CPR / First Aid certification
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle access
- Valid Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check (Vulnerable Sector Search may be required)
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
The CCA‑RPL program recognizes knowledge, skills, and attitudes gained through on‑the‑job training, formal education, and life experiences to award credit towards CCA education. Funding is available through the Department of Health and Wellness for the Recognized Prior Learning (RPL) Program.

Funding is available for the Continuing Care Assistant Program at community colleges across Nova Scotia. The Nova Scotia Government covers tuition and most program costs for eligible applicants. Contact your local college for details.
Working Conditions and Physical DemandsThis role requires a detail‐oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying (using proper techniques), bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
