BC Girls Choir is seeking an energetic and talented musician to serve as our collaborative pianist, beginning in September 2026 for the 2026/2027 season. Our Organization The British Columbia Girls Choir offers training for singers in grades 1-12, through four graduated choir levels. BCGC has provided young singers with the opportunity to achieve a high level of artistry since 1998. Under the leadership of an experienced and renowned artistic team, supported by dedicated administrators and a committed board, young voices continue to thrive and make an impact.

Our singers learn music in a variety of styles and genres, ranging from classical to pop to musical theatre and more, and participate in performances, camps, festivals, tours, and guest artist appearances. Job Description The successful candidate will be a highly skilled, reliable, collaborative musician who works well as part of a dynamic and energetic group, and especially enjoys working with children and youth. You will share in our vision of providing high quality music education to young singers, and delivering connecting and artistically fulfilling performances to our wider community.

Responsibilities:

BCGC’s primary collaborative pianist:

  • Is available for the year’s schedule of activities (September-June):
    • Weekly rehearsals (Saturdays from 9am-2pm), dress/technical rehearsals, and concerts
    • Music camp (usually scheduled for October)
  • Extra rehearsals, recording sessions and/or events as determined by the Artistic Director
  • Collaborates with the Artistic Director in rehearsal to share musical expertise, and helps create a joyful and supportive environment for singers
  • Leads vocal warmups and sectional rehearsals if needed, and on very rare occasions, full rehearsals, in the event that the Artistic Director has a sudden, unplanned/emergent absence
Weekly Rehearsals:

All choir levels rehearse (one after the other, often with some overlap) on Saturdays from 9:15am to 2:00pm in Coquitlam, BC. Rehearsals typically run from September through mid-June.

Music Camp:

One weekend a year, usually in October, from a Saturday morning to a Sunday afternoon (i.e. two days, one overnight).

Concerts:

Two main season concerts – one in December and one in June.

Additional Performances:

Other workshops, concerts, and special events may be scheduled throughout the season, and are always planned in consultation with the pianist.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Advanced piano proficiency: minimum

    B.Mus. in Piano Performance or equivalent in training and experience
  • Experience working with choirs and conductors as an accompanist
  • Experience in choral singing
  • Excellent sight-reading and improvisation skills
  • Able to read and interpret chord charts
  • Knowledge of basic vocal warmups
  • Knowledge of diverse styles of music, and the ability to play everything from classical to jazz to pop music

Assets:

  • Music arranging
  • Organ proficiency
  • Able to play basic percussion parts (on shakers, spoons, cajon, djembe, etc.)

Remuneration:

$78.75 per hour for rehearsals and scheduled events, with a three (3) hour minimum call for events other than regular weekly rehearsals; $600.00 – Eight hours scheduled for camp rehearsals; $600.00 – Eight hours per each BCGC concert event
