About the Opportunity

The City of Penticton is looking for a permanent full‑time Development Services Clerk – Economic Development, based in Penticton, B.C. Reporting to the Planning & Licence Manager, the Development Services Clerk – Economic Development is the first point of contact for the Development Services Division (Planning, Licensing, Building, Economic Development) with a focus on administrative supports for the City’s Economic Development function.

Key Responsibilities
  • Answer, screen, and transfer telephone calls, emails, and front desk inquiries/complaints.
  • Perform various Development Services administrative duties, including:
  • Indexing, copying, distributing, and filing documents; following up on outstanding documents for registration and execution.
  • Administering road and sidewalk closure permits.
  • Maintaining and ordering stationery supplies for the division.
  • Keeping information on display racks and desktop up to date.
  • Handling cashiering duties.
  • Providing relief for other clerical staff within Development Services, including reception.
  • Provide administrative assistant duties for members of the Development Services Management Team as required.
  • Manage the econ mailbox, including responding to and forwarding emails as needed.
  • Handle inquiries about the City’s Economic Development functions.
  • Update various City Economic Development webpages as directed, including the “Business and Economic Development”, Penticton.
  • Airport and Job Fair webpages.
  • Assist in administering the City’s participation in the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) immigration program.
  • Support the delivery of Economic Development and City-supported conferences and events.
  • Assist in the organization of economic development workshops, sessions, or meetings as required.
  • Provide concierge services to businesses needing support navigating municipal processes.
  • Cross‑train for the other Development Services Clerk desk.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills
  • Knowledge of Freedom of Information (FOI) legislation and municipal FOI procedures and policies.
  • Familiarity with office procedures, correct grammar, functional terminology, and relevant regulations, acts, agreements, covenants, and bylaws.
  • Positive attitude, able to meet challenges, handle pressure, and resolve problems while maintaining focus.
  • Commitment to exceptional customer/client service.
  • Exceptional time management skills, with the ability to balance various tasks and meet schedules.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
