Job OverviewCheshire Medical Center’s unit for critical care nursing is a 10‑bed suite focused on caring for and supporting patients and their families while using advanced technological systems and tools to monitor and treat critical illnesses. Each patient room is equipped with an electric therapeutic bed, emergency call system, cardiac monitoring with additional modules, a wall‑mounted documentation station, and access to other critical care equipment.
In the ICU you will perform patient care aimed at stabilizing vital functions, preserving life, and preventing complications, restoring patients to maximum functional capacity. You will care for critically unstable patients ranging from infants to adults, applying age‑appropriate knowledge of growth and development.
Our goal is to provide optimum 24‑hour critical care nursing to medical/surgical patients with unstable vital functions requiring specialized treatment and supportive measures. This is accomplished through rapid recognition and treatment of life‑threatening complications with an emphasis on total patient care.
You can expect to work 12‑hour shifts, with holiday and weekend rotations, and a nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 1:2 or less depending on acuity, isolation needs, and experience. Training includes a comprehensive orientation for newly licensed RNs and valuable opportunities for continued education both on‑site and off‑site, including CCRN certification. Career growth prospects include shared governance, nurse preceptorships, and potential promotion to charge nurse.
Qualifications• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current NH RN license and BLS certification.
• ACLS required within 1 year of hire and maintained biannually.
• CCRN preferred but not required.
• Previous medical‑surgical, emergency, and/or critical care experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to stressful situations quickly and effectively.
