Overview
WACHU, as it is known, is often the most joyous unit of Cheshire Medical Center. The unit is well-equipped for a small, community hospital, with four labor rooms, one operating room, and separate facilities for postpartum patients. It offers hydrotherapy for pain management in labor, includes a nursery for infant testing or post-resuscitation care, and has its own negative pressure room.
The unit provides experience in labor and delivery, postpartum care for mothers and babies, and gynecological patients. The WACHU is baby-friendly and serves a wide variety of patients with a skilled, collaborative team. This role involves providing nursing care to patients from infancy through the adult lifespan, applying knowledge of age-related growth and development to individualize the nursing process in accordance with the nursing philosophy, standards of care, and standards of practice.
The orientation and training are extensive, usually eight weeks in postpartum and twelve weeks in labor and delivery. Growth and advancement are encouraged through committee and meeting involvement, shared governance, practice improvement projects, and charge nurse training.
You will provide nursing care to patients from infancy through the adult lifespan, utilizing knowledge of age-related growth and development to individualize the nursing process in accordance with the nursing philosophy and objectives, the standards of care, and the standards of practice. Expect 12-hour shifts on a four-week schedule, with every other weekend off. The unit emphasizes teamwork and patient-centered care.
QualificationsMust be a graduate of an accredited nursing program. Previous medical-surgical RN experience required;
Pediatric experience preferred. Current New Hampshire RN license required. BLS - Within 3 months of hire and maintained on a biannual basis. Neonatal resuscitation is required but may be obtained after hire. NACOG certification desirable.
