Overview
Cheshire Medical Center's critical care unit is a 10-bed ICU focused on caring for and supporting patients and their families while using advanced technological systems to monitor and treat critical illnesses. Each patient room is equipped with an electric therapeutic bed, emergency call system, cardiac monitoring with additional modules, a wall-mounted documentation station, and access to other critical care equipment. Working with a dedicated team, the ICU provides nursing care aimed at stabilizing vital functions, preserving life, preventing complications, restoring patients to maximum functional capacity, and addressing age-related needs from infancy through adulthood.
Our goal is to provide optimum 24-hour critical care nursing to medical/surgical patients with unstable vital functions requiring specialized treatment and supportive measures. This is accomplished by the rapid recognition and treatment of life-threatening complications with an emphasis on total patient care.
ResponsibilitiesYou will contribute to patient care in the ICU focused on stabilizing vital functions, preservation of life, and prevention of complications.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide nursing care to patients from infancy through the adult life cycle, adapting care to age-related growth and development.
- Utilize nursing knowledge and standards of care and practice to guide the nursing process.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure timely recognition and treatment of life-threatening complications.
- Operate in accordance with unit policies and patient care protocols.
You can expect to work 12-hour shifts, with holiday and weekend rotations, and a nurse-to-patient ratio of one to two or fewer depending on patient acuity, isolation needs, and nurse experience.
Training includes a comprehensive orientation for newly licensed RNs, with opportunities for continued education onsite and offsite, including CCRN certification. Career growth opportunities include shared governance, nurse preceptorships, and potential for promotion to charge.
Qualifications- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current NH RN license and BLS certification required.
- ACLS required within 1 year of hire and maintained biannually.
- CCRN is preferred, but not required.
- Previous medical-surgical, emergency, and/or critical care experience preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to stressful situations quickly and effectively.
