Fisheries Research and Management Division staff are seeking to fill two positions (3‑month and 9‑month terms) to assist with field collection of fish community data, aquatic habitat assessment, and angler use data from reservoirs and lakes across Nebraska. These positions will provide additional support for research efforts at Lake Ogallala, Harlan County Reservoir, and Medicine Creek Reservoir, which may involve statewide travel and overnight stays.
Responsibilities include:
- Field collection using boat electrofishing, trap nets, gill nets, and seines
- Assist staff with fish age determination from otoliths, scales, and spines and subsequent computer data entry
- Equipment maintenance and support for outdoor education programs
- Other related responsibilities as assigned
- Interaction with the public and communication with aquatic recreation participants
Minimum Qualifications: 1 year experience or 1 year coursework/training in fisheries management, natural resources, biology, and/or agriculture.
Additional Qualifications: 15 semester hours (or equivalent post‑high‑school coursework/training in fisheries management, natural resources, and/or biology) plus 12 months experience in wildlife, recreation, or fisheries management. Preference will be given to candidates seeking a degree in biology/fisheries and wildlife. Driver's license required.
Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesApplicants should possess general knowledge of, and the ability to operate, care for and repair fisheries equipment and motor vehicles; ability to follow instructions and maintain records; general knowledge of fisheries management techniques; good speaking and communication skills.
