American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring active NE or compact RN licensure and at least 2 years of ICU experience.
Details- Acute care ICU setting at a Level II Trauma facility with 33 beds and an average daily census of 16
- Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2–3 for adult patients
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
- RNs are required to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips; GE monitors are used with tele tech oversight
- Respiratory equipment ranges from nasal cannula to ventilator; RNs are expected to manage and troubleshoot these devices
- Charting is performed in Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0630)
- Every other weekend required
- Minimum of 2 holidays falling within the contract period are required
- Floating to PCU or occasionally Med/Surg with typical unit ratios (1:4 or 1:5)
- Block scheduling is not approved unless weekends only; self-scheduling applies to core staff with travelers placed in remaining slots
- Nurse aides available based on census for 1:1 sits or floor assistance;
Healthcare Support tech available 3 days/week (M–F, 0800–1630)
- Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications will not be accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- Experience titrating drips (cardiac, insulin, sedation) required
- Experience with telemetry interpretation required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify permanent address for radius compliance
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years; references must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
- Candidates who have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any Common Spirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on Wednesdays during orientation; a minimum score of 90% is required to pass — failure to pass will result in contract termination
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove artificial nails will result to contract termination
- One shift of unit/department-specific orientation is provided
- RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
