Nursing Externship - Summer

Provide summer learning experience for pre-professional students in their last summer prior to graduation or post graduate education.

• Demonstrate understanding and competency in technical skills and procedures
• Apply sound judgement through the nursing process in the management of patient care
• Establish therapeutic rapport with patients and families

Foster collaborative relationships with coworkers, physicians, and ancillary department members

• Demonstrate the ability to function as a team member in the healthcare community
• Develop a framework of integrated care of the patient as part of the health care continuum
• Paid Summer Externship
• Shift differentials and incentives available

• Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program
• BLS certification
• Current Nurse Aide certification in the State of Nebraska preferred
• Expected graduation from an accredited registered nursing program the following calendar year
• Letter of reference from current or past nursing program faculty member
• 1000 word essay describing:
  What you are looking to gain from this experience as a paid intern;
  What has been your biggest challenge in nursing school thus far;
  What type of nurse would you like to be;
  What are your career goals;
  What does the word “nursing” mean to you
• Ability to work in harmony with assigned co-workers and other staff
