Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit night shift position requiring NE or compact licensure and competency with arterial lines.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a 40-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within an acute hospital setting
  • Patient population includes adults with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory conditions, stroke, post stent, post pacer placement, and renal failure
  • Unit maintains a 1:4-5 nurse-to-patient ratio on both day and night shifts
  • Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts
  • Weekend coverage required every other weekend
  • Required to work at least two holidays during the contract timeframe
  • May float to Med Surg or ICU to care for PCU-acuity patients
  • Charge nurse present on each shift; nurse aides/patient care techs support with a 1:12 ratio
  • RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
  • Common titratable drips include Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
  • Uses EPIC for electronic medical records
  • High flow respiratory equipment and bladder scanners are used on the unit
  • Provide high-acuity nursing care to diverse adult patient populations
  • Focus on patient experience, responsiveness, communication, and safety
  • Team-oriented environment with support from charge nurses and patient care techs
  • Emphasis on flexibility, adaptability, and receptiveness to feedback
  • Exposure to different cultural populations, especially Hispanic and Somalian patients
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas
  • One day of unit-specific orientation provided with additional pass/fail exam on learned skills
  • First time travelers will be considered
Requirements
  • Active NE or compact state RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum two years of recent PCU or stepdown experience
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (no pending certifications accepted)
  • Competency in managing arterial lines is required
  • Must be able to titrate drips as specified by unit protocols
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips is required
  • Must not be currently or recently (past year) employed by Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facilities as full time, part time, or PRN staff
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, with residence verified by driver's license
  • Driver's license required for verification purposes
  • Must pass an open book exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher
  • Up to 7 days of requested time off must be stated up front for consideration
