Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Med/Surg Orthopedics position requiring a NE or compact RN license and at least 2 years of recent experience.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care hospital setting on the 22-bed Med/Surg Orthopedics unit
- Patient population includes total knee, hip, and ankle replacements, total shoulders, and spine surgeries
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5-6
- Support staff includes nurse aides with a 1:13 ratio and tele techs for monitoring
- Uses Epic EMR, prior Epic experience preferred
- Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts and self-scheduling with cyclic rotation
- Weekend coverage required every other weekend
- Holiday coverage is rotated with permanent staff
- Floating is required to Med Surg, rehab, or PCU units with Med Surg acuity
- Responsibilities include providing care for post-operative orthopedic patients and managing pain medications, antibiotics, and blood transfusions
- Team-oriented work environment with emphasis on flexibility, collaboration, and a willingness to learn
- Tele techs are responsible for reading and interpreting telemetry strips
- 1-day unit-specific orientation provided
- Strict fingernail policy prohibits artificial nails in all patient care areas
- Limited to 7 or fewer days of requested time off per 13-week contract, submitted upfront
- Blocked scheduling is not approved except for weekends, and duo scheduling is not permitted
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years recent Med/Surg Ortho RN experience
- Current BLS certification required
- Submission of a valid driver’s license for address verification purposes
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Candidates must not be actively employed (full time, part time, or PRN) at any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility
- Completion of a pass/fail skills exam during orientation with a required score of 90% or higher
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
