Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a 16-week ICU night shift assignment, requiring a NE or compact RN license and 2 years of ICU experience.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a 33-bed adult ICU within an acute care hospital
  • Average daily census is 16 patients with adult trauma, cardiac, overdose, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker, stroke, vascular cases, renal and heart failure, and respiratory distress
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:2-3 in ICU, with floating to PCU or Med Surg at a 1:4 or 1:5 ratio
  • Night shifts are 12 hours in length, every other weekend required, minimum of 2 holidays during assignment
  • Self-scheduling available for core staff, travelers are added into schedule
  • One shift of unit-based orientation is provided, with 12 total orientation hours
  • Epic EMR charting system is used, with telemetry monitoring on GE monitors
  • RNs are required to titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
  • Ventilator management from nasal cannula to full vent support required
  • Floating to PCU and Med Surg as needed
  • RNs are responsible for managing critical adult patients, titrating drips, ventilator care, and documentation
  • Support staff include nurse aides and healthcare support tech based on census/volume
  • Orientation includes a skills exam with study resources provided; failure to achieve 90% results in contract termination
  • A minimum of two holidays must be worked during the contract period
  • Requests for time off must be submitted up front, and no additional RTO will be approved after submission
  • Blocked scheduling is not approved except possibly for weekends only; duos or shared schedules are not allowed
  • Dress code policy prohibits artificial nails in all patient care areas
  • First-time travelers are accepted if all requirements are met
Requirements
  • Active NE or compact RN license required at time of application; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum two years of recent ICU experience required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; no pending certifications allowed
  • Ability to read, interpret, and document telemetry strips
  • Copy of driver’s license required for consideration to ensure residency is at least 50 miles from facility
  • Candidates may not be currently or recently (within one year) employed by any facility associated with Common Spirit, including CHI and Dignity
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within last 3 years
  • Successful completion of a pass/fail skills exam during orientation is required with a minimum score of 90%
  • Artificial nails are prohibited for all patient care staff
