Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) stepdown role requiring titration of drips and a NE or compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care hospital setting on a 40-bed PCU/stepdown unit
- Serves adult patients with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, stroke, post stent/pacer, and renal failure diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 on both day and night shifts
- 12-hour day shifts ), including every other weekend and at least two contract holidays
- RNs must titrate drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
- Must be competent in managing arterial lines and high flow RT equipment
- RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
- Uses Epic EMR; experience preferred
- Floating required to Med Surg or ICU for PCU acuity patients
- Navy blue scrubs are required
- Pass/fail open-book clinical exam required during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is mandatory
- Artificial nails are prohibited for patient care providers
- Overhead lifts in half of rooms, portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners available
- Multicultural patient population, primarily Hispanic and Somalian
- Strong teamwork, adaptability, and communication skills are essential for success
- RTO requests must be upfront and no more than 7 days per 13-week contract
- Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver’s license
- Unit has a dedicated charge nurse per shift and support from nurse aides with a 1:12 ratio
- Blocked scheduling only considered for weekends
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications are required
- Competency with arterial lines and titratable drips required
- Must provide a copy of driver’s license for radius verification
- Must not have been employed (full/part time or PRN) at any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
- References: one supervisor reference from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference within the last 3 years
