Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 16-week ICU position requiring a compact or NE RN license, with night shifts and ICU expertise.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a hospital-based Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with a trauma level 2 designation
  • 33-bed ICU with an average daily census of 16
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:2 to 1:3 for adults
  • Common patient types include trauma, cardiac, overdose, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
  • RNs required to titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
  • Monitoring equipment includes GE brand, with tele tech oversight; RNs must read, interpret, and document strips
  • Utilize Epic EMR; previous experience with Epic preferred
  • RT equipment ranges from nasal cannula to ventilator
  • 11.5 to 12-hour night shifts,
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating to PCU or Med Surg units may occur, typically with corresponding ratios
  • Holiday coverage for a minimum of two holidays during the contract
  • ICU RNs will titrate drips, perform cardiac monitoring, and manage a complex adult patient population
  • Nurse Aide and healthcare tech support available depending on census and time of week
  • Must pass an open-book exam on clinical skills during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
  • Up to one shift of unit-specific orientation provided
  • No blocked scheduling permitted except potentially for weekends; duos with shared schedules not permitted
  • Requests for time off (RTO) exceeding 7 days per 13-week period will not be approved
  • Self-scheduling available for core staff; travelers are added into the existing schedule
Requirements
  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU RN experience required
  • Active BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; pending certificates not accepted
  • Driver's license required to confirm address for 50-mile radius rule
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates may not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit / CHI / Dignity facilities within the past year
  • Prohibited to wear artificial nails while providing patient care
  • References: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
