Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a NE or compact license and strong critical care skills for a 13-week acute care assignment.

Responsibilities
  • Work in a 33-bed Intensive Care Unit within an acute care hospital
  • Unit serves adult trauma, cardiac, overdose, sepsis, stroke, post-stent, vascular, renal, heart failure, and respiratory distress patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:2-3 for adults
  • RNs are required to titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
  • RNs must manage respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilator
  • Uses Epic EMR, with experience preferred
  • RNs read, interpret, and document telemetry strips, monitor brand is GE, with tele tech oversight
  • Shifts are 12-hour days,
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • Floating to PCU and occasionally Med Surg is required, maintaining appropriate ratios
  • Minimum of two holidays covered if they fall in the contract
  • One shift of unit-specific orientation provided
  • RNs are assisted by nurse aides and healthcare support tech as census allows
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in patient care areas; refusal to comply will lead to termination
  • Pass/fail skills exam is given during orientation and requires a minimum score of 90% to continue
  • RTO (requested time off) must be communicated upfront and cannot exceed 7 days during the contract
  • Self-scheduling is available for core staff; block scheduling is not guaranteed for travelers
  • Radius requirement is 50 miles; applicants must live at least 50 miles from the facility
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Requirements
  • Active NE or compact RN license is required and must be in hand at application
  • Minimum of 2 years recent ICU experience required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Experience titrating critical care drips and managing advanced respiratory equipment required
  • Driver's license required for address verification
  • Must provide two references—one supervisor from the past 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
  • May not have been employed (full, part-time or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year
