Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an ICU position requiring at least 2 years of acute care experience and BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities- Position is in an adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within an acute care hospital
- Unit includes 33 beds with an average daily census of 16 patients
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:2-3 for adults
- Patient population includes trauma, cardiac, overdose, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, and respiratory distress
- RNs are required to titrate a variety of drips including cardiac, insulin, and sedation
- Works with respiratory therapy equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators, including CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen delivery
- Use of Epic EMR system is required
- 12-hour night shifts are required
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend
- Floating is required, primarily to PCU and occasionally to Med Surg, maintaining similar ratios
- Monitors are GE brand; RNs must read, interpret, and document telemetry strips under tele tech oversight
- Unit support includes nurse aides (including 1:1 coverage as needed) and healthcare support techs three days per week
- RNs are responsible for titrating multiple types of drips and working with advanced respiratory care equipment
- Must interpret and document telemetry strips as a routine duty
- Will float to PCU or Med Surg as needed, with patient assignments matching standard ratios for those units
- Orientation includes one department-specific shift and a skills assessment exam
- Must work a minimum of two holidays if occurring during the contract
- Requests for time off must be submitted prior to acceptance and are limited to seven days for a 13-week contract
- Self-scheduling is available to core staff, with travelers scheduled in accordingly; block scheduling is not guaranteed and only possible for weekends
- Unit adheres to a strict artificial nail policy for direct patient care staff
- First-time travelers will be considered
- Duos wishing to share a schedule or car are not permitted
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)
- Minimum of 2 years' recent ICU nursing experience in an acute care setting
- Certifications needed: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (all current at time of consideration)
- Experience with Epic EMR required
- Copy of driver's license required to verify permanent address and eligibility for travel rates (must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility)
- May not have been employed as full time, part time, or PRN by any facility associated with Common Spirit, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year
- Compliance with fingernail policy prohibiting artificial nails in all patient care departments
- Two professional references: one supervisor from past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from past 3 years
- Must pass a skills exam during orientation, receiving a score of 90% or higher
