A Brief Overview

The Behavioral Health Specialist I provides comprehensive behavioral health services, including assessment, intervention, and support, to individuals and families. This role involves working collaboratively with healthcare providers, care team members, and other professionals to promote mental and emotional well-being.

Essential Functions
  • Provide comprehensive behavioral health services to the designated patient population.
  • Provide emotional support, de-escalation, and implementation of treatment planning interventions.
  • Use evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address mental health issues, including but not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use.
  • Offer crisis intervention services as needed.
  • Work with healthcare providers, care team members, and other professionals to coordinate comprehensive care.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and develop integrated care plans.
  • Advocate for patients' needs and ensure they receive appropriate services and support.
  • Educate patients and their families about behavioral health issues and coping strategies.
  • Provide resources and referrals to community services and support networks.
  • Facilitate group sessions on mental health topics and other psycho educational topics.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of all patient interactions and treatment plans.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
  • Prepare reports and documentation for case reviews and audits.
  • Stay current with developments in the field of behavioral health.
  • Attend training sessions, workshops, and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in regular supervision and professional development activities.
  • Maintains patients rights, including the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. 100%.
Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or related field – Required.
Experience Qualifications
  • Minimum of 18 years of age – Required.
  • 1-3 years relevant experience in behavioral health or social services – Preferred.
Skills And Abilities
  • Excellent communication and behavioral management skills that promote safety and de-escalation.
  • Basic computer skills – preferred.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature, without loss of efficiency or composure, and to perform under stressful conditions when confronted with multiple requests, demonstrating prioritization skills.
  • Good understanding of mental health disorders and therapeutic techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Effective verbal, written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS – Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association. Required.
  • Mental Health Technician or Behavioral Health certificate – Preferred.
  • Non-Violent Intervention training within 30 Days – Required.
