The Department of Human Resources Development - State Recruiting Office will refer all inquiries regarding this recruitment to the DOT Personnel Office.
Duties SummaryIndependently inspects all phases of public works construction and major maintenance projects, such as buildings, wharves, piers, pipelines, breakwaters, seawalls, paving and dredging, for conformance with plans, specifications, contracts, regulations and standard methods of work; assures compliance with designs, specifications and applicable workmanship, material and safety codes and standards; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification RequirementsTo qualify, applicants must meet ALL of the following requirements:
Basic Education/Experience RequirementGraduation from high school, or equivalent OR work experience which demonstrated the ability to read and apply oral and written instructions, write simply and directly and perform arithmetic computations.
General ExperienceTwo (2) Years of journey-level experience in one or more of the construction trades which provided the full range of specialized knowledge, skills, abilities and practices used in such trade(s) as applicable in the construction industry.
Specialized ExperienceOne (1) year of (A) Construction inspection work experience OR (B) Full-time supervisory work experience over a force of skilled trades workers in the construction industry, provided the experience involved responsibility for interpreting plans and specifications and inspecting workmanship and materials for adherence to such plans and specifications.
Non-Qualifying ExperienceExperience in such positions as the following WILL NOT be accepted as qualifying:
- Engineering Aid or Draftsman
- Equipment Operators
- Materials Inspector
- Automotive Mechanic
- Machinist
- Welder

Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Clearance - Federal Criminal History Records CheckIn accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the harbor must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. In order to be granted the TWIC clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within seven years from the date of appointment.
Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding seven years.
The cost for the records check will be the applicant's responsibility. However, upon hire, the employee will be reimbursed provided he/she submits the TWIC receipt to his/her supervisor.
Selective CertificationApplicants must possess a valid driver's license at the time of application.
