All About General MerchandiseGeneral Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all GM areas of the store. The team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set‑up and maintenance, and pricing processes across the store. They also support pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.
Job OverviewWe believe in meaningful experiences that help team members build skills for a career. As a General Merchandise Expert, you will:
- Know guest service fundamentals and support a guest‑first culture across the store.
- Understand retail business fundamentals, including department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement.
- Execute daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and achieve sales goals.
- Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests while completing daily tasks.
- Engage guests to help solve specific needs.
- Thank guests and let them know we’re happy they chose Target.
- Execute daily tasks assigned by your leader, including receiving products, restocking shelves, organizing the backroom, arranging merchandise, and putting up promotional signs.
- If certified, operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures.
- Execute processes such as changing prices, merchandise set‑up and maintenance, and inventory accuracy for all areas.
- Learn how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability.
- Be knowledgeable about store resources, products, and services to solve issues and improve guest experience.
- Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
- Work safely, comply with all safety policies and training, and report hazards.
- Support guest services such as backup cashier or fulfillment processes and maintain compliance with beverage laws.
- Perform other duties as required by business needs.
- Enjoy interacting and helping others – guests and team members.
- Thrives in a fast‑moving, highly active, physically demanding role with teamwork, flexibility, and creative problem solving.
- Open to a flexible schedule with varying hours, days, shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays, peak shopping times).

- Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners and other technology.
- Work independently and with a team.
- Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot.
- Attention to detail and follow multi‑step processes.
- Remain focused and composed in fast‑paced environments and accomplish tasks within established time frames.
- Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
- Climb up and down ladders.
- Scan, handle, and move merchandise up to 44 pounds safely.
- Flexible work schedule (nights, weekends, holidays) and reliable attendance.
- Work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements (e.g., Drive‑up, carry‑out).
- Remain mobile throughout the shift.
