Position: Registered Nurse - Inpatient Acute Care 5West
We are searching for a Registered Nurse Med/Surg at our West Campus - someone who works well in a fast-paced setting.

At West Campus, part of Texas Children's, we take pride in serving our community with a small-town feel backed by the resources of a larger organization. Our acute care units, 3 West and 5 West, cater to a diverse range of diagnoses requiring inpatient care. These include respiratory conditions, diabetes management (both new and established patients), pre-op and post-op medical and surgical care, orthopedic cases, neurological conditions, gastrointestinal and genitourinary issues, as well as hematology and oncology patients.

We maintain a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, and sometimes 1:3, ensuring quality care and attention for our patients. Come join our team!

Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in nursing or an associate's degree, technical diploma, or current enrollment in a nursing bridge program is required

* Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas or Nurse Licensure Compact and BLS certification are required

* 9 months of professional nursing experience

* The ability to demonstrate positive and appropriate interpersonal skills

* Demonstrate good time and resource management skills

* Demonstrate flexibility

* Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills

* Operate unit specific equipment

* Knowledge of the nursing process, critical thinking skills, PALS, ACLS and interdisciplinary collaboration

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, all successful candidates will be required to undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards

Responsibilities:

* Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including biophysical, psychosocial, developmental ( age - appropriate), culture, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner.

* Analyzes situations, anticipates potential problem, and detects changes in patient status

* Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes to the patient's condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record.

* Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and/or patient care conferences and documents in the medical record

* Assists patients/family in implementing their role in the plan of care as appropriate

* Assess patient family learning needs capabilities, preferences, and readiness to learn prior to teaching.

* Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members.

* Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner.

* Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.

* Participate in unit performance improvement initiatives.
