Overview
We are seeking a Patient Sitter for Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus Float Pool. The role supports patient safety for individuals at risk of harm to self or others, under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). Care incorporates Family Centered Care in a cost‑effective, developmentally and age appropriate manner for the patient population. The position may float to Emergency Center (EC), Acute Care, and Critical Care units.
Responsibilities- Sitters are responsible for remaining with the assigned patient at all times during their shift.
- Assist the RN to provide an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and employees.
- Assist in identifying patient response to care provided and report patient condition to the RN to assure achievement of desired outcomes.
- Demonstrate willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and skills to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.
- Attend mandatory training and development activities and meet institutional and departmental health and safety requirements by established deadlines.
- Remain current in unit/hospital information, job expectations, and training.
- Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED - Knowledge of basic nursing care
- Ability to respond quickly to requests and interact with people at all levels
- 1 year experience in a psychiatric inpatient or outpatient program, Psychiatric Residential placement programs
- Inpatient hospital experience or enrolled in an accredited nursing education program
- BLS – Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
- CNA – Certified Nurse Assistant
