Townsen Memorial is looking for a Full‑Time Surgical Technologist to join our Katy, Texas location.

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for scrubbing in and assisting the physician for all cases. After each case, the surgical technologist will be on standby for sterile technician needs, including decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization and sterile storage, while adhering to department policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Work with specialty surgical instrumentation, troubleshoot problems, and repair equipment.
  • Assimilate and communicate information received from various sources accurately, timely, and effectively.
  • Review instrumentation needs, manage inventory, and stock operating par levels for stored instrumentation and emergency carts.
  • Identify and follow manufacturer instructions to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse, and disinfect instrumentation, flexible scopes, and equipment.
  • Use count sheets consistently to correctly assemble, protect, wrap, containerize, peel pack, and label instrumentations.
  • Prepare carts from pick list and deliver instrumentation to the operating room as needed.
  • Makes rounds through the operating rooms consistently and confirms instrumentation needs are met.
  • Facilitate room turnovers and adhere to proper handling of garbage, linen, and biohazardous materials.
  • Follow manufacturer recommendations for sterilization methods and select appropriate techniques.
  • Document and verify sterilization loads and biological tests to determine the efficacy of the sterilization process.
  • Record utilization of instrumentation proficiency in the tracking system.
  • Handle sterile products and ensure stock is placed in the proper location.
  • Identify and inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality.
  • Assemble and prepare instrumentation for sterilization.
  • Organize workflow, problem‑solve, and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Participate in staff and self‑development meetings and provide guidance and training to other staff as needed.
  • Protect patient and family privacy rights and maintain confidentiality of patient records.
  • Maintain awareness of safety hazards and keep a clean and orderly work area.
  • Maintain professional competence and certifications.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique related to operating room preparation and procedures.
  • Proficiency in medical and surgical technology.
  • Strong knowledge of operating equipment and supplies.
  • Leadership skills.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Formal education in surgical technology.
  • Current Surgical Technologist Certification from an accredited program or completion of an appropriate training program in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or United States Public Health Service.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Must complete additional educational requirements as assigned by due dates.
  • Annual employee health requirement as established by the facility (i.e. PPD annual testing).
