Financial Manager, CFO
Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Finance is responsible for management of the financial activities of the organization, including financial analysis and planning, accounting operations and reporting, budgeting and external audits. Managing the school’s accounting support services team and collaborating with other departments are critical to the organization’s success and long‑term sustainability and strategic focus. The Director of Finance is also jointly responsible for the implementation of Island Pacific Academy’s organization‑wide strategic and capital improvement plans in alignment with the school’s Mission and Vision:

This position requires strong financial management, analytical, strategic planning and communications skills to carry out these responsibilities while ensuring legal and regulatory compliance of the financial functions.
Salary Range: $80,000–$105,000
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Fiscal ResponsibilityProvides strategic recommendations and analysis to the Head of School and Board of Trustees based on financial analysis and projections, cost identification and allocation, and revenue/expense analysis.
Collaborates with Head of School and Board of Trustees to establish and implement long‑range priorities and strategic plans for operations and capital expenditures of the organization.
Prepares and presents the annual budget, capital improvement plan, and monthly reporting to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
Maintains, monitors, and documents necessary changes to established internal controls and policies to ensure safeguarding of assets.
Monitors and reports spending within the approved budget and spend policies.
Budget and Financial ManagementManages all aspects of the school’s accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger.
Ensures timely and accurate monthly financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles with budget variance explanation.
Prepares recurring and ad‑hoc financial reports and analyses (including but not limited to cash flow analyses, pro forma and re‑forecasting) to facilitate decision making.
Manages financial aid budget and communicates with Head of School and Board of Trustees about financial aid budget, policies and trends.
Functions as the lead contact for all audit and tax fieldwork. Prepares and maintains all schedules, financial statements and footnotes for annual audit.
Manages and complies with local, state and federal government regulatory reporting requirements and tax filings including the preparation of the 990 and General Excise Tax filings.
Develops and maintains relationships with outside accounting firm(s), banks and lessors, casualty/liability insurance agent(s), credit card companies, and other outside vendors/agencies.
Keeps educated of changes in regulations and legislation that impact school operations in the area of accounting and investments.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesProvides daily management of business office staff and consultants, including establishing annual goals (to support overall goals established in the finance plan), providing regular performance reviews and appropriate recognition, and supporting ongoing professional development opportunities.
Reviews priorities and workload with finance staff and consultants.
Applies managerial oversight on work results and takes corrective action as necessary.
Marginal FunctionsOther duties as assigned by the Head of School or Board of Trustees.
Attend business and school events as deemed necessary by the Head of School.
Working and collaborating with other departments to further the mission of the school.
