Purpose

of Position

To provide quality nursing care, with a positive professional attitude, to patients according to established policy and procedures. This role is vital in ensuring unit functions effectively and patients receive the best possible care during their hospital stay or treatment.

Essential Functions
  • Assign tasks and ensure that all team members are providing appropriate patient care.
  • Act as liaison between staff and management, facilitating communication and addressing any issues that arise during the shift.
  • Responsible for coordinating patient care, monitoring patient conditions, and ensuring that treatment plans are followed.
  • Assist with direct patient care, especially during busy periods.
  • Manage the day‑to‑day operations of the unit, including patient admissions and discharge, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Work with physicians, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individual care plans for patients.
  • Responsible for leading the nursing department during the shift with respectful and helpful behavior towards nursing personnel.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Proactively maintain current knowledge of facility policies and procedures, complete skills training, and maintain professional certifications.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously while ensuring patient safety and care quality.
Work Environment Considerations
  • Monitor RN, Ward Clerk, and CNA workstations for organization and cleanliness.
  • Ensure patient care areas are safe and stocked with supplies by rounding at the beginning of your shift and midway through your shift.
Education, Qualifications, Experience
  • Registered Nurse with 2 years’ experience in an acute care setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of the approved staffing requirements and critical thinking skills to assess if staffing needs adjusted due to higher acuity patients or low census.
  • Knowledge of nursing processes, equipment, EMR, and organizational chain of command.
Expectation of Service

This is a non‑exempt position which requires 40 hours per week for a full‑time position. Regular and punctual attendance is required when scheduled.

Physical Requirements

Lift/carry: frequently 5‑25 lbs, occasionally 26‑50 lbs, rarely 51‑100 lbs.
Push/pull: frequently 5‑10 lbs, occasionally 11‑50 lbs, rarely 51 lbs.
Hold occasionally 5‑10 lbs, rarely 11 lbs.
Manipulation done from ground to waist level and waist to shoulder.
Climbing to move up or mount by using the hands or feet.
Stairways occasionally.
Stand: frequently 5 to 12 hours.
Sit: 1 to 3 hours/day.
Walk: frequently 5 to 12 hours/day.
