Position Information

The housekeeper will complete cleaning functions at Citizens Medical Center, our acute care facility. The technician works with equipment and supplies to perform a variety of environmental services and other duties in accordance with established policies and procedures in order to maintain an orderly and sanitary condition. The Housekeeper will report to the Housekeeping Manager.

Days: 8‑hour days, 5 days a week, including every other weekend.

Hours:

The facility is staffed 24 hours a day.

What You’ll Do
  • Receive and follow cleaning assignments.
  • Complete routine maintenance on carpets, tiles and vinyl floors.
  • Follow established safety precautions and infection control procedures.
  • Attend meetings and in‑services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You Bring To The Table
  • No formal education is required for this job.
  • Possess interpersonal skills needed to function in a “team setting”.
  • Understands importance of maintaining established sanitary standards in housekeeping.
  • Ability to be tactful and courteous to patients/residents, visitors and staff.
  • Appropriate personal hygiene.
  • Ability to work in close cooperation with others and the Department Leader.
  • Ability to read well enough to follow directions and understand the responsibilities of working with chemicals, equipment, both manual and powered and supplies in the Environmental Services Department.
  • Willing and able to participate in educational sessions, in‑service training and floor demonstrations.
  • Experience in maintaining sanitary environments is an asset.

Typical Working Conditions

Exposure to dust, housekeeping solutions, steam, heat and disinfecting solutions; precautions in infection control, blood‑borne pathogens, and needle sticks. May be subject to offensive odors, loud noises, and unpleasant sights. Requires lifting, carrying, walking, sitting, pushing, pulling, and flexible schedule. Also may work beyond normal hours and be subject to emergency call on off‑duty hours. This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented.
