Job Purpose

The Speech Language Pathologist supports the instructional program by identifying students with communication disorders, planning and implementing individualized educational plans, and recommending direct and indirect services.

Essential Functions
  • Assess students' communication skills (articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) to identify communication disorders, determine program eligibility, and develop treatment recommendations.
  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, physicians, administrators, team members, and other professionals to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Coordinate meetings and processes for eligible students (testing, screening, IEPs, parent conferences, pre‑referral staffing, etc.), present evaluation results, develop treatment plans, and provide training to parents, students, and staff.
  • Develop individualized educational plans, interventions, and educational materials to minimize the adverse impact of communication disorders in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Interpret medical reports within the scope of the Speech Language Pathologist's experience to provide information and ensure that treatment and intervention plans are appropriate.
  • Maintain files and records (progress reports, activity logs, billing information, treatment plans, required documentation, quarterly reports, screening results, etc.) to ensure the availability of information as required for reference and compliance.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and seminars to convey and gather information.
  • Prepare written materials (activity logs, correspondence, memos, educational plans, Medicaid billings, reports, progress reports, etc.) to document activities and provide written reference.
  • Provide speech and language therapy to students to minimize the adverse impact of speech and language disorders on student success.
  • Provide itinerant services at multiple work sites and provide therapy and assistance as required.
  • Research resources and methods and determine the appropriate approach for addressing students' needs.
  • Respond to inquiries, resolve problems, provide information, and/or make referrals to appropriate personnel.
  • Schedule speech‑language therapy intervention sessions and direct services efficiently.
  • Supervise paras and/or speech assistants, monitor performance, and support the overall objectives of the instructional program.
  • Transport supplies and equipment to various sites, ensuring availability.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient operation of the work unit.
  • Minimum

    Job Requirements
    • Knowledge of assessment instruments and ability to apply them.
    • Ability to operate standard office equipment and software applications.
    • Basic math skills (fractions, ratios, percents).
    • Organizational skills, setting priorities, meeting deadlines.
    • Reading, writing, and facilitating group discussions.
    • Knowledge of coding, policies, regulations, and laws related to speech therapy.
    • Understanding of anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms and disorders.
    • Principles and practices of speech and language therapy.
    • Ability to use specialized equipment in communication disorders.
    • Ability to gather, collate, and classify data.
